Chia is a member of the mint family and is native to Mexico. Have been grown for millennia by the Aztecs and Mayans. These ancient civilizations were very fond these seeds and his warriors carried on long walks to control your hunger and keep energy levels high. Only a small amount was said to maintain a warrior sated throughout the day. Crop was reduced by the Spanish who conquered the area.

With the nutritional benefits of chia increasingly popular, cultivation is rising again. Chia seeds have a mild taste, so they can blend well with any cuisine. The main benefit is that they contain large quantities of the plant form of Omega 3 fatty acids in the form of ALA, or alpha-linolenic acid. This is the plant form of Omega-3s found in fish. Our body needs to convert to a usable form that already exists in fish. Flax seeds are the seeds of another kind that is recognized to be high in Omega 3 fatty acids, but flax becomes rancid very quickly and should be grounds for use by the body. Chia seeds have more Omega 6 than those of flax, but also contain more omega-3 than flax, and have the added benefit of having a long useful life and need not be ground. They can be eaten as is or milled if desired. They do collect in and around the spaces between teeth, which can be annoying, but it's hardly an insurmountable problem. It can be annoying if you can not floss after eating them.

Chia seeds are also high in calcium, manganese, and fiber. There are two antioxidants in chia, which are also in coffee. They are the chlorogenic acid and caffeic acid. Chia is also high in protein, and is a protein of the plant. It contains all the essential amino acids, by which is something that vegetarians should eat if they insist on shunning animal protein.

Chia seeds are black and white. There is no real difference in color. The Whites are more rare and harder to find thus more expensive, but it's a waste of money to buy them, and do not believe any hype that tries to make spend more money on them. They are no better than black.

Chia has it all. Complete protein, minerals, fiber and essential fatty acids. It is useful in preventing cardiovascular disease, colon problems, sugar peaks the blood, slowing digestion and the regulation of positive gut. Probably is a valuable addition to the diet.
