Without the impact or the emotive power of color to draw your attention, the black and white images need to have a strong graphic quality to function properly. The main elements that keep an eye open are the shape and form, structure and texture – all of which can be used to help the effects and composition of your shots black and white.
Simplicity is often the key: try to ensure that the subject fills the frame for maximum impact, and try to cut all the elements distraction. This is also a good way to create abstract images in the manner and form become the most important element, rather than the item you are photographing.
Low angle illumination direction, which is more easily early and late in the day can help boost texture and shape. For outdoor pictures try to shoot when the sun is low in the sky, rather than up, and choose your position so the light comes from one side of the issue.
As well as the shape and form, black and white is too glorious for the texture of a subject. Developing Tight, so that the texture of the subject fills the entire frame, you can create compelling abstract images – as sand waves or ripples on the bottom of the mushrooms. Or, use the texture of an object as part of the composition Generally, when other objects are included in the scene.
